2004 UCCA Convention
XIX Congress of Ukrainians in America
September 24-26, 2004
As stated in the UCCA by-laws, the quadrennial convention of the UCCA
must be held within the same year as the U.S. presidential elections. Thus,
the XIX Congress of Ukrainians in America will be held in Philadelphia from
September 24-26, 2004, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The XIX Congress of
Ukrainians in America and will have as it’s theme “Unite, Brothers of Mine…”
in reference to unity within our community (as exemplified by the recent
decision of the Ukrainian National Association to rejoin the ranks of the
UCCA) and in commemoration of the 190th anniversary of the birth of Taras
Shevchenko and the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the Shevchenko
monument in Washington, D.C. A special committee for the XIX Congress was
formed with Ihor Kusznir, head of the Philadelphia UCCA branch, as its
coordinator. During the proceedings of the Congress, panel discussions will
be held on the following themes pertinent to the Ukrainian American
community – a) Assistance to Ukraine; b) Our Role in Washington; 3)
Ukrainian-language School System in the
U.S.; and d) the Future of the Ukrainian Community. The
Convention reviews reports by the executive branches and provides them with
a vote of confidence, elects ruling bodies, decides the future direction of
activity of the UCCA and settles such issues as may come before it. The
Convention is composed of the appropriately elected delegates of the member
organizations, UCCA branch delegates, delegates of the UCCA National Fund,
members of the National Council of the UCCA, National Audit Commission of
the UCCA and the National Mediation Court of the UCCA. Every member
organization or UCCA Branch has the right to send their representative or
representatives to the UCCA Convention in accordance with the
following stipulations:
- Each organization or UCCA Branch with no
less than 20 and no more than 100 actual
members has the right to one (1) delegate
- Each organization or UCCA Branch with more
than 100 members, has the right to two (2)
delegates
- The Executive Board of a duly qualified
Central or National Organization has the right
to send one (1) delegate, if it has less than
5,000 members
- The Executive Board of a duly qualified
Central or National Organization has the right
to send additional delegates in accordance with
following stipulations:
- One (1) delegate, if membership exceeds 5,000
- Two (2) delegates, if membership exceeds 10,000
- Three (3) delegates if membership exceeds 30,000.
