2005 marks the 65th
anniversary of the founding of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of
America (UCCA). On May 24, 1940, an American Ukrainian Congress convened
at the Washington Hotel in our nation’s capital, with 804 delegates
hailing from 168 cities across the US. The delegates represented 19
central/national organizations and over 2,000 local groups; and together
they adopted a declaration supporting the historical right of the
Ukrainian people to have their own free and independent democratic
national state; and to establish the Ukrainian Congress Committee of
America.
Today, almost all the founding fathers,
that laid the foundations of this Ukrainian umbrella organization, have
departed into eternity. Yet it would be worthwhile to recall their
achievements at least briefly, in order to show future generations of
Ukrainian Americans, what their forefathers did for both the United
States and Ukraine.
Our website will bring to light, by
decade, some highlights and interesting facts about the UCCA that both
our members and friends may not be aware of. We hope you enjoy this
supplement to our site and share it with your friends and family.
