09 September 2011
This Sunday, people around the world will solemnly commemorate the tenth anniversary of September 11th. On this day a decade ago, the United States became the target of a massive terrorist attack which threatened to shatter the peace and security of our nation, and brutally ended the lives of nearly 3,000 innocent victims at New York City’s World Trade Center, Washington, DC’s Pentagon, and in the fields of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
September 11, 2001 touched the lives of millions of people. We will never forget those who were lost in the tragedy, those who were injured and suffer today as a result, and those servicemen and women who bravely risked, and in many cases, sacrificed their lives during the rescue and recovery efforts and in defense of our nation. These are our heroes; the valiant police officers, firefighters, medical personnel and servicemen and women to whom we are eternally grateful.
Although the objective of the terrorists was to strike a powerful blow into the hearts and minds of all Americans and tear at the very fabric of our nation, a remarkable and eternal force of unity, determination and patriotism rose from the ashes of this tragedy that only served to strengthen the American spirit and fortify our love for freedom.
On this day of remembrance, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), would like to reiterate its sincerest condolences to all the victims of 9/11 and their families. They have been and will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. We also extend our sincerest thanks to all of the civil servants and first responders who selflessly gave of themselves in the service of others and their nation, in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks. And finally, we express our deep appreciation to all of our servicemen and women around the globe who courageously risk their lives everyday to ensure the continued safety of our nation and all freedom-loving nations of the world.
September 11, 2001, was an unparalleled tragedy for our nation. Today we continue to honor those we have lost and those who have served us selflessly in the aftermath of this tragedy. May the lessons of 9/11 serve to remind us of how precious life is and how important it is to value, love and cherish each other. May we also remember and always appreciate this country’s greatest gift to us – freedom.
God Bless America!
