On May 18th the UCCA Executive Board bid farewell to the Honorable Oleh Shamshur, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States. The letter stated:
“The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America sends warmest regards to you in completing your diplomatic mission as Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States. During your tenure, we had the honor and opportunity to cooperate on many issues of mutual concern and interest.
The UCCA would like to thank you for your continued interest in the Ukrainian American community and the UCCA specifically. We were witnesses to your active participation in our many common endeavors highlighted by the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Holodomor; our cooperative efforts to revoke the Jackson-Vanik amendment; as well as the many cultural and educational initiatives to promote Ukraine and its rich heritage.
Ukraine will be losing a great Ambassador and promoter of its interests. Your persistent work, aimed at broadening and strengthening the strategic partnership between our countries, Your efforts in the sphere of accomplishing business-like relations between the U.S and Ukraine, as well as between Your Embassy and our Ukrainian community in the United States evokes many thanks and our great respect.
On behalf of the UCCA, please accept our sincerest gratitude for your constant cooperation and support, and much success in all of your future endeavors.”
