The UCCA strongly condemns the Ukrainian governing authorities’ November 21st decree halting EU preparations and denounces the November 30th brutal attacks on the peaceful demonstrators gathered in Kyiv’s Euromaidan.
Therefore, we call upon the US government to immediately reiterate their support for the Ukrainian people and their aspirations to join the European community of democracies. We further call on immediate economic sanctions, which include freezing of assets and visa restrictions for Yanukovych and his government.
Below please find a sample letter, which the UCCA urges you to send to your Senator and Congressman urging support for the aforementioned. To send an email to your representatives please go to: http://www.senate.gov/ and http://www.house.gov
The Honorable [Name]
U.S. Senate/U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20510 (Senate) 20515 (House)
As your constituent I urge you to support economic sanctions and visa restrictions against the current Ukrainian government, which has brutally attacked its own citizens, flaunted international and human rights norms, all the while rejecting EuroAtlantic democratic principles. I request that you express my concern to the President and the Secretary of State and urge them to take immediate actions to freeze the assets of Victor Yanukovych and his government.
I call upon you to speak out in support of the millions of peaceful Ukrainian demonstrators gathered on EuroMaidans in Kyiv and throughout Ukraine.
I look forward to your correspondence on this matter of urgent concern.
